Despite all the negative press around smoking, tobacco companies are finding ways to keep their profits ‘healthy’. This infographic from purplebox takes you through the profits of the biggest tobacco companies and looks at how they continue to grow. In western countries, fewer people are smoking, but globally the number of people smoking continues to rise. At present, there are around 1 billion smokers in the world, but this is projected to rise to 1.64 billion by 2025. What’s happening is glaringly obvious and as more western countries become aware of the health impact of smoking, they begin to move to other markets. For example, British American Tobacco have done some heavy marketing in Africa and are not facing lawsuits to cover past and future healthcare costs related to smoking.
Even in western countries, the ever-increasing taxes only put more pressure on people with an addiction. Addictions can be powerful and just because the price goes up, it doesn’t make it any easier for people to quit. Find out more in the infographic.
