  • 52% of Filipino adults plan to shop end-of-year sales
  • 30% will shop because they’re bored
  • 15% will shop because they think the sales provide good value
  • Commentary from Finder.com’s consumer advocate Susannah Binsted

PRESS RELEASE – Filipino adults are more likely to shop end-of-year sale events like 11.11 out of boredom than for a good deal, according to Finder.com’s Single’s Day Statistics report

Finder’s survey of 2,011 Filipino adults reveals 52%, or an estimated 37.3 million people, will shop the sales – for a number of different reasons.

Pure boredom was the most popular reason given, with 30% of adults saying this is why they’ll be adding to their carts.

That’s double the number of adults who say they’ll be shopping because the sales provide good value, with 15% of adults giving this reason. The other 7% of shoppers say they’ll be hitting up the sales but didn’t give a specific reason why.

Men are more likely than women to be planning to shop the sales overall, with 53% of men planning to shop compared to 50% of women. They’re also more likely than women to be shopping out of boredom (34% men vs 27% women).

45-54 year olds are most likely to shop Single’s Day, with 62% of people from this age group saying they’ll be making a purchase. Meanwhile just 42% of those aged 55-64 say the same.

Finder.com’s consumer advocate Susannah Binsted says the sales are a great time to pick up items for less.

“A big chunk of the Filipino population are planning to shop the end-of-year sales this year, with many doing so to simply stave away boredom, while others are looking to take advantage of the great deals on offer.

“With people spending more time at home over the past 18 months, it’s not surprising so many people are looking to shop away their boredom. Travel and hospitality took a backseat this year, so people will be looking to have fun with their shopping to make up for lost time,” she said.

“If you’re shopping out of boredom, it’s a good idea to set and stick to a budget so you don’t go overboard. The sales can be a great time to pick up a product for less – but only if it’s something you truly need and not something you’re buying just for the sake of it.”
