Season of Giving: Seven Indispensable Tips to Be An Awesome Gift-Giver

“Happiness is not so much in having as sharing. We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.” -Norman MacEwen.

It is officially the merriest season of the year!

With Christmas just around the corner, many of us can notice a little magic in the air. People are a lot kinder to each other, more generous, and a lot happier to be around. Of course, we should not forget that it is the season of giving, and many of us are getting a head start on our Christmas shopping lists.

While giving Christmas gifts is largely an act of generosity and kindness, many of us do it out of the feeling of love and appreciation. Indeed, when it comes to gifts, it is the thought that counts. But if we truly care about our gift’s recipient, we take note of the right hints and consider their tastes and interests. As a result, we picked just the right thing to get, and our generosity will be rewarded with a warm smile and deep appreciation. There are also instances wherein we give gifts because we feel obligated to, and other times, we send them for no reason at all.

Indeed, gift-giving is a love language regardless of how much your gift is worth. More importantly, it is an act that anyone can learn. However, being an awesome gift-giver takes skill and research, and if you want to be one, all you need to do is read the tips listed below. So, before you head on to Trinoma for your annual Christmas shopping spree, take a look at the indispensable tips to be an awesome gift-giver down below:

1.) At the end of the day, it is the thought that counts

Sure, it may sound cliche, but there is a good reason why this is an accepted rule of gift-giving: It is actually true. You may have thought of giving your recipient a GNC women’s evening primrose oil, but at the end of the day, they are more than happy that you thought of buying something for them. Indeed, they are more likely to appreciate a thoughtful but inexpensive gift than a generic but costly one.

2.) Do not expect a gift in return

We do not give to receive something in return. Gifts are not obligations, and we give them out of the kindness or generosity of our hearts. You might already have a list of people that you wish to shop for, but just because they are on your list does not necessarily mean you are on theirs. Give gifts because you want to, not because you expect one in return too.

3.) Personalized gifts are thoughtful

Take your gift-giving endeavor to the next level by giving your gifts a personal touch. In this way, you can show your recipient that you were thinking of them. Some great way to personalize gifts is to give them a useful item with their name engraved. Alternatively, you can include a handwritten letter inside the gift bag to give your gifts a personal and sentimental touch.

4.) Try not to overspend

You do not need to go all out on a gift just because you wish to show someone your car. There is no prize for spending the most on someone. In some cases, this may even make a person feel uncomfortable. Lavish presents, while thoughtful, are not always the best option. Remember, a meaningful gift can just be as great as an expensive one.

5.) Use a gift wrap or gift bag

Wrap your presents. Not only do gift wrappers make your Christmas gift look nicer and more festive, but they also show the recipient that you went through the extra care to keep their gifts a surprise. Wrappers are great because recipients may wish to open gifts in private. After all, not everyone would wish you to see their reaction upon receiving a gift.

6.) Include a gift receipt

As gift-givers, we all wish that our recipients would be happy with what we get them. Unfortunately, this is not always the case. There may be instances wherein a specific clothing item does not fit or if there are duplicates of the same item. To address such occurrences, be sure to include gift receipts so that they can easily return the item.

7.) Do not be afraid to ask someone what they need

While most people think that this is something you should avoid, there are certain instances wherein this is acceptable. This is particularly true if you are giving gifts to kids. Feel free to reach out to the parents and ask what you should get and what you should avoid.
