From the very first phone up to the latest iPhone, cell phones have proved just how useful they are for mankind. In Los Angeles, apple repairs are rampant due to the fact that majority of the people in that state are Apple users. Another example is the sudden appearances of phone brands, promoting different features for affordable prices. Indeed, cell phones have integrated themselves as an important part of life. Ever since Motorola produced the first model, cell phones have become so advanced in just several decades, with the future possibilities seemingly endless.

The First Cell Phone
Before, cell phones were called “car phones”. This is because they were too large and heavy to carry around or even placed in the pocket, which can be considered a hassle today. The very first mobile phone call was made by Martin Cooper on April 3, 1973. Cooper, a senior engineer at Motorola, called a rival telecommunications company and told them that he was speaking thru a mobile phone. The device was said to weigh more than one kilogram, takes ten hours to fully charge, and grants the user 30 minutes of talk time.

Then the DynaTAC 8000x phone came in 1983. It was still huge in today’s standards but it was small enough to be placed in a bag. With a whopping price of $4,000 per model, the DynaTAC became a pop culture icon that appeared in famous movies and television sitcoms. It is important to note that cell phones weren’t available to the masses yet. It was used for sales and business, instead. DynaTAC and its succeeding models had faults too. Like with the first phone, they were bulky and not so portable. However, their biggest advantages are that they have long battery lives and provide users with more talk time. Compared to today, calling was more important to users, which made these models extremely popular.
As the time passed, more mobile phone companies emerged and figured out how to pack more and better features that customers demand in a portable and more affordable model.
Of course the size of the phones is not the only thing that changed. The software and features were modified as well. In the 40 years that cell phones were in the market, the changes that they have undergone can be compared to ancient history already. Gadgets are merging together and the demand for lighter devices is steadily increasing. Mobile phones will continue to advance and it will not be a surprise if smartphones and Android phones completely take over the market in the future.

We may not know it, but who knows if the regular phones will completely phase out. Maybe the cell phones in the future will be synchronized to their owner’s thought processes, emotions, and senses. These phones may also reflect every individual’s taste and personality. It is not just about how the cell phone changes; but also how cell phones alter us as human beings.
