Top 5 principles of competent management

Management, as a business trend, plays a huge role in modern companies. In conditions of high competition, competent strategies help to stay afloat. Management is an integral part of working with both the public and employees. Productive work of employees is just one of the main goals of the company’s management. What are the basic principles of management that everyone should know about?

competent management

It is important to know your business

It’s no secret that every director should know his business from beginning to end. Every person at the head of the company should understand what his subordinates are doing.  It doesn’t matter what the company does. What to do? Dive into all processes, continuously train employees by organizing group excursions to the facilities. And also use studying abroad on long trips as motivation.

It doesn’t matter what kind of business you have – a beauty salon or sports cars for rent, in any case, it is important to go through all the stages with employees. For example, to understand how cars are serviced for rent, to talk with marketers about why renting a car is beneficial for the client and to delve into marketing analyses and plans. Try yourself as a client and rent a car in your company or from competitors. The more departments of your company you capture, the better!

Having a permanent goal

When an employee does not understand his clear goals, be it financial independence or higher position, does not see landmarks, instability and uncertainty appear in his work. The task of the manager is to prevent this instability. For effective work, a person must understand not only what his duties are, but also why he performs them. If you do not follow the promising solution of problems, but rely only on today, problems may appear in the future.

The manager needs to allocate resources for long-term planning, and when making decisions, always keep in mind far-reaching tasks that are understandable to all participants in the process.

The right goals

Set only those goals that you think are real. There is no need to reassure employees or overreact. Otherwise, you can expect a flurry of negative emotions and irritation from employees and not expect any benefit at all. The goal should be achievable, understandable and permanent.

Working with suppliers

Many heads of companies, when choosing contractors or suppliers, pay attention exclusively to the cost. Think not only about the price, it is better to minimize the total costs.

Ideally, you can have a single supplier for each type of delivery based on long-term relationships, loyalty and trust. It’s the same with contractors. The price, of course, should be taken into account, but it cannot be a determining factor. And the presence of a single permanent supplier reduces the variability of the supplied materials and increases the stability of the quality of the final product. Of course, choosing such suppliers is a very difficult matter, and there is always a risk of encountering dishonesty, but the potential for error should not be a reason for refusing to act.

These are the basic principles of competent management that everyone should know. Obviously, for professional knowledge and management training, a deeper and more detailed immersion in the question of the profession is necessary. However, this can already serve as a small instruction to begin with.
