What is the Hardest Part of SEO?

If you talk to an SEO specialist about the most challenging part of their job, you might get some different answers. Any two people might regard the industry differently. Some might enjoy aspects of it that others find detestable.

SEO involves things like hunting for keywords, adding original pictures and videos to make a site more engrossing, and building up a collection of backlinks. This article lists some of the best ways to build links for your site, but two SEO specialists might not even agree about whether that’s a fun part of the job.

We’ll take some time right now to talk about what many SEO experts consider the hardest part of the job. Not everyone will agree with this assertion, but many of them will.

The Job is Never Done

There are two parts of SEO that many in the industry feel are the most annoying. The first is that when you set up a website, you might feel that it’s perfectly optimized and you could not have done a better job. You might feel tremendously proud of yourself and buy a fancy dinner or have a nice glass of wine to celebrate.

Here’s the problem, though. Within a few weeks, that perfectly optimized site needs an update. The very nature of SEO is that you must continue working on a site for as long as you want it to get hits, conversions, email sign-ups, or anything else you hope to achieve with it.

That can irritate some SEO specialists. That’s also why some companies hire full-time SEO staff members. It’s because they must continue updating the company’s website practically on a daily basis for as long as the site and company exist.

You Must Stay on Top of the Industry’s Best Practices

The other part of SEO that many experts express frustration with is that it’s constantly changing. If you learn as much as you can about SEO and then you ignore it for two years, when you come back to it, many of the best practices might have evolved.

What worked in SEO five years ago is nowhere close to what works in 2023. If you go back ten years, it’s even farther removed. The SEO concepts that worked a decade ago, during the industry’s infancy, are hopelessly outdated by today’s standards.

Staying on top of the industry’s best practices is just as much of a full-time job as endlessly updating a company’s website. You need to have a certain bulldog-like mindset to keep learning new SEO strategies as they become widespread within the industry.

You Can Never Stop Learning

If you don’t have the appetite for it, you are bound to get discouraged before long. You need to take classes, read articles, attend seminars, and keep learning for as long as you want to stay on top of the SEO industry.

Some SEO experts are okay with these two aspects, but even the most dedicated individuals usually admit these factors can wear them out sometimes.
